The Troutfest Texas 2019 Committee is thrilled to announce our impressive array of fly fishing experts from all over the country who will be speaking at TFTX 19!

Hilary Hutcheson, Fly Fishing Guide, Ambassador, and owner of Lary’s Fly & Supply in Columbia Falls, Montana

Hilary started her fly-fishing career as a teenaged guide in West Glacier, Montana. She guided through college, then took her journalism degree to Portland, Oregon where she worked as a television news anchor and reporter. She eventually returned to Montana to co-own and operate Outside Media and Trout TV for nearly a decade. Today, she’s still guiding on the Flathead River system and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and owns and runs a fly shop called Lary’s Fly & Supply in her hometown of Columbia Falls, Montana. She volunteers as a fly fishing instructor for Casting for Recovery, serves as a national board member of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, is a climate activist with Protect Our Winters and writes for a number of outdoor industry publications. She is a TU Business Member and enjoys supporting her local Flathead Chapter with programs, fundraising and events. She loves hanging out with her two teen daughters, especially when they volunteer on the oars.

Lucas Bissett, Captain, Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide and Fishing Advocate from St. Bernard, Louisiana

Captain Lucas Bissett is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide from Louisiana. Captain Bissett was the Orvis Endorsed Saltwater Guide of the Year in 2017 and has been guiding for close to 7 years in his home state. Lucas has spent the last several years trying to protect the marshes he calls home by creating a black mangrove restoration project and a non-profit called Anglers Bettering Louisiana’s Estuaries.

 

Meredith McCord, World Record Fly Angler and Travel Ambassador based in Houston, Texas

Meredith McCord resides primarily in Houston, TX, where she successfully ran a chain of paint-your-own-pottery studios, The Mad Potter for the last 20yrs, selling this past October. Thanks to her incredible staff over the years at The Mad Potter, Meredith has the opportunity and availability to work/travel part-time for Tailwaters Fly Fishing Travel and for her own Fly Fishing Travel Co, as a lodge scout and trip hostess.
She has parlayed her passion for fishing and travel into doing some fun TV and filmwork with a fly rod in hand, stalking fish on flats, rivers and lakes around the globe and in her home state. She starred in Season 4 of Bucaneers and Bones with Lefty Kreh, Huey Lewis and Tom Brokaw and has been featured in other fishing shows such as Guiding Alaska and Silver Kings, the latter which will air on the Discovery Channel this upcoming January.

In 2012, Meredith began chasing IGFA (International Game Fish Association) world records to challenge herself and improve her angling abilities. In 2015 and 2016, Meredith was named Top Female Angler of the Year by the IGFA. Then in 2017, she signed up and won Grand Champion of the Ladies Tarpon Fly Tournament in Islamorada. This past year, Meredith placed 2nd and won the Award for the Largest Tarpon caught and best other species. As of today, Meredith possesses well over 150 IGFA world records to date, the 2nd highest of any other woman angler out there.

When she is not at work or on the water, she’s usually enjoying family and friends, leading mission trips to work with orphans in 3rd world countries, bird hunting or cooking at home. To keep in fishing shape, Meredith spends her time swimming and road biking. She is passionate about many things in this earth, but her biggest love is for the Creator of it all.

Mac Brown, owner of Mac Brown Fly Fish and Fly Fishing Guide School in Western North Carolina

Mac Brown is the owner of Mac Brown Fly Fish and Fly Fishing Guide School in Western NC. Mac created the first full-time fly fishing guide service in Western North Carolina. The first Delayed Harvest on the Upper Nantahala River in early 1993 was also a result of his efforts.

Mac Brown is the author of “Casting Angles” which is a fly casting handbook for those on the journey of understanding the mechanics of the cast. The ACA, FFI, and others have endorsed this text as a reference for instructors as well. Mac is a Master Casting Instructor through the Fly Fishers International. As a professional guide, instructor, and educator he has helped tens of thousands of beginners through advanced anglers!

Mac was inducted into the Southern Appalachia Fly Fishing Museum Hall of Fame under recreation on August 26, 2017.

Pat Dorsey, head guide and co-owner of the Blue Quill Angler fly shop in Evergreen, Colorado

A native of Colorado, Pat Dorsey has been guiding for over 25 years. Pat Dorsey spends well over two hundred days a year on the water, a combination of guiding customers, hosting destination travel-trips, and personal days on the water.

Pat Dorsey is the head guide and co-owner of the Blue Quill Angler fly shop in Evergreen, Colorado. He oversees and trains more than 25 guides, setting the standard for integrity and professionalism in the Blue Quill Angler guide operation. Dorsey also, maintains an online stream report that monitors stream flows and conditions for the Blue, Colorado, South Platte (Cheesman, Deckers, Spinney Mountain Ranch, and Elevenmile Canyon), North Fork of the South Platte, and Williams Fork Rivers.

Chris Johnson, Owner and Founder of Living Waters Fly Fishing in Round Rock, Texas

Chris is the owner and founder of Living Waters Fly Fishing, a fly shop and guide service based out of Round Rock, Texas. He has guided the Texas Hill Country for over a decade, and has fly fished the heart of the state for 20 years. Chris has been a licensed guide in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alaska. Chris is a FFI Certified Casting Instructor, Umpqua Signature Fly Designer, Tenkara USA Guide, and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Angler Educator. He is also part of Whiting Farms, Scott Fly Rods, and Scientific Anglers pro team. Chris is dedicated to sharing his passion for the sport and investing in the next generation of fly anglers. He often is a featured presenter and fly tier at fly fishing, outdoor, conservation, and community events.

Chris and his shop have also been featured in several outdoor publications including Trout magazine, Garden and Gun, San Juan Mountains Journal, and Tenkara Magazine. He was also awarded the 2014 Man of the Year from the FFI Texas Council and in the same year, Living Waters was the recipient of the FFI’s prestigious Lee Wulff Award.

In addition to fly fishing, Chris is passionate about film and photography. He co-produced the short film “Unspoken,” in an effort to raise awareness for Rio Grande Cutthroat trout conservation. As a result, Living Waters is working with Trout Unlimited as a Gold Level endorsed TU Business to restore Rio Grande Cutthroat throughout their native range.

Chris is happily married to his wife Emily and together they enjoy running the fly shop, fly fishing the world, and raising their daughter Lydia in the sport.
