A Message from GRTU’s President Rafael Torres
I would like to thank everyone for the well wishes over the last few weeks on my election to the Presidency of the GRTU Board. It is an honor and privilege to head this important organization tasked with stewardship of the cold water conservation efforts in Texas. For those of you that do not know me, I’ve served on the Board of Directors, Vice President of Chapter Affairs and most recently as the last National Leadership Committee Representative.
One of my initial goals for our Chapter is to get our members actively involved in conservation projects on our home river, the Guadalupe. We also have to attract and involve our youth more and help build a TU Youth Program that will assure that GRTU will have leaders moving into the future. There will be information forthcoming regarding new plans from our Conservation Committee and I encourage members wanting to get involved to let us know, we cannot do it without your participation.
I would like to welcome the new members to the Board of Directors Michael Racis, Steve Couch, Dan Cone and Ron McNamara and thank the current Board members for their continued service. I look forward to the new energy and ideas these individuals bring to the Board and look forward to working with them to accomplish the goals the Board will be setting in the coming months. I would also like to thank Ron McAlpin and Gary Burns for the service on the Board and wish them well in their new found freedom, however, I expect that they will still be around helping with the chapter’s many events.
I wish you all a safe summer filled with great fishing adventures and look forward to seeing you soon. Remember, our chapter is made up of members from all over Texas and we need your input and participation to keep GRTU making a difference in the future.
Rafael Torres, GRTU Board President
