GRTU to Host Kid-Fish in
New Braunfels in February
The Trout Fest that has been held annually in Landa Park for the last few years in January has been rescheduled due to the flood damage. It will be held this year from Feb. 4-14.
For the past two years, GRTU has sponsored free fly-casting lessons for children from 10 to 17 years old on each of the Saturday mornings. This year, we have been asked to give adult lessons, because of many requests.
Tentatively, we will offer fly casting lessons from 8 to 10 a.m. for kids and from 10 a.m. to 12 for adults on each of the Saturdays, Feb. 6 and 13, during Trout Fest.
We will probably give the lessons on the section of the Comal River that flows through the golf course, about a quarter-mile from the Trout Fest pool.
We will need several volunteers to help the certified instructor. Being an accomplished fly caster is not a prerequisite. It is quite fulfilling to do this, and GRTU can get a lot of good local press exposure from an effort of this kind.
Please set aside at least one morning on one of these days to help out, and then plan to fish the Guadalupe in the afternoon and the next day.
We will also need some black woolly buggers from some of you tyers for the kids and adults to use. More about this—and a sign-up list—at the January meeting. Talk to me at the meeting.
