Troutfest '97 Shows Kids What
Coldwater Fishery Means
January's Troutfest '97, held with the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department, was a success for those who were willing to brave the day's frigid temps. On day one it was 22 degrees, but amazingly we had seven kids show up! (They all wanted to win the raffle for that Sage Youth Outfit reeeel bad.)
They caught a few fish, but most of the kids got a kick out of just watching the fish swimming around. The raffle was won by 15-year-old Kalob Brooks of Canyon Lake.
Our second day, the 18th, was a bit warmer, at 34 degrees, but only four kids turned out. Daniel Ferguson, a 12-year-old from New Braunfels won the raffle.
Thanks to all that turned out to volunteer their time and knowledge. I know it made an impression because I saw one of the kids in Gruene buying a rodnreel right after the class! And thanks to Gruene Outfitters for donating rod tubes for the Sages and woolybuggers for the kids.
