Who We Are

GRTU is the Texas affiliate of Trout Unlimited, a national organization dedicated to the preservation of cold water fisheries and their habitats. Our chapter is actively engaged in the enhancement of the Guadalupe River trout fishery. Our aim is to maintain a permanent and growing trout population in the Guadalupe, and to support the mission of TU. We support a trout stocking program in the Guadalupe River below the Dam at Canyon Lake. Trout are stocked several times per year at selected sites. Fishing access to these areas is available to GRTU Members who join GRTU's Lease Access Program.

GRTU On-Line Membership and Lease Access Application

For your ease and convenience, you are invited to renew or join TU and GRTU through our on-line membership. You supply the information and the result will be a completed, fully-formatted membership application. Here is all you need to do:

  1. Click Here to Fill-out the Form and when done, click "Submit Form" at the bottom of the page.
  2. Using your browser's print button, print the completed application. Otherwise, correct any errors by pressing the "Back" button on your browser's toolbar to return to the form and make any corrections.
  3. Leases will not open until November 1. Lease passes will not be mailed until that time. However, getting your application in early will help ensure that your Area Representative will have time to process your application.

New this year, you will mail your payment with the printed form to the GRTU Tresurer. Address is on the completed application.

We are now accepting credit cards (VISA/MASTERCARD) online. Refund Policy: All sales are final on all goods, services, and donations.

Important: If renewing your TU national membership, have your Trout Unlimited Member Number available. This number is on your membership card, and can be found on the address label of "Trout" magazine. You may also call National TU at 703-522-0200 to obtain your member number. If it has been a year, or longer, since your National TU Membership has expired, your TU member number has been removed from the database. Leave the TU Number field blank and renew your TU membership. "First Time" members to TU are given a discount. If you join/renew your membership at the Trout Unlimited Website, please be aware that there is going to be a "lag" time of up to six weeks before GRTU receives your membership information before your Lease Membership can be validated. In order to join the Lease program, your TU membership must be valid until October. If you renew your TU membership, the term of membership will be added to your existing membership. You must supply your automobile license tag numbers for any vehicle you operate on a lease. Those who have never attended a Lease Orientation Program, must attend a Lease Orientation Class before your application can be processed. Any former Lease Access member who has NOT been a member since 2003 must attend a Lease Orientation Class.

If you encounter any problems completing an application contact webmaster

    GRTU Lease Access Program

GRTU "Supporting Members" can enroll in the GRTU Lease Access Program. This provides a "path to the river" over private property otherwise known as a GRTU Lease. The fee goes to secure the lease and to purchase trout that normally range from 11 to 20 inches in length, with the average size being about a pound and a half per fish. All first-time lease members are required attend an "orientation" session to educate the member on the requirements of the landowner and the rules of the chapter. All trout caught on a GRTU lease are released unharmed back into the river. The program can be summarized as providing a "Path to the River, Nothing More". No other activity is allowed on GRTU Leases, besides parking your car and walking to the river, unless it is explicity authorized by the landowner. Access season normally runs from November through May. You must attend a one-hour Lease Access Orientation before you can become a Lease Access Member. Click HERE for a complete list of Lease Access Program membership requirements. Lease Access Membership fee is $95 per year, and are renewed on November 1 of each year.
