Carp spots

Post by brandonfox » Sat Jul 20, 2013 9:57 pm

Has anyone been seeing any carp on flats? I had one flat near Kerrville that had some pushing 20 pounds but it has since been taken over by swimmers and bowfishers. If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated - they are as close to bonefish as I will get anytime soon.

Thanks,
Brandon

The pedernales river is filled to the brim with carp thanks to our German ancestors who stocked the by the ton. Was out there yesterday and did pretty well.

This is an old post, but I'd definitely second the Perdenales River. I like the section near Hamilton Pool Road (good luck parking though).

In reality though, virtually any waterway around here likely will hold these fish. I've seen (not caught) them in the Blanco, San Marcos, Upper Guad, Colorado.... just keep looking and you will find these craze inducing fish around. If there is one fish species that has humbled me since I've been down here in Texas more than any other, it's the lowly European Carp!

I appreciate it! I fished the pedernales almost exclusively last fall and it is indeed filled to the brim with carp.
It seems that the Ped has the numbers, the Guad has the size. Less people on the Ped, however.

I have seen some huge carp on the Pedernales near Johnson City...none that wanted to play, but there are some healthy fish there.
