dry fly question/suggestions?

Post by flatfishcharlie » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:02 pm

Hello all,
I am warming up to tying trout flies, I really enjoy the dry fly patterns the most at this point. I was curious how effective dry fly patterns are in march on the guadalupe. I plan on going then, and intend to tie a nice selection of flies before my trip. If I can use dries with success, which patterns/colors would be the best choice?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I'm sure you'll get multiple recommendations on this one. One I would definitely recommend is Elk Hair Caddis pattern. Tie a few different body colors (cream, brown, olive, or even black). One other pattern I always have in my box is a Klinkhammer style fly (Google it and it will come). I prefer a natural or gray hare's ear body with grizzly hackle and light gray post in #14/16/18.
