Fly Swap!

Post by TugAddict » Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:57 pm

Hey all. Anyone interested in doing a fly swap? I figure the first dozen or so people that express intrest. We would each tie a bakers dozen of one pattern (13) send them in to the host, and the host would then compile 12 sets (1 of each tiers work) of flies and send them back to each participant. Fish with them as you like and enjoy. The 13th set would be sold, hopefuly in our forum, and the profit would go the GRTU. I have never ochestrated one of these in the past so sugestions are welcomed. Could be fun. We just need tiers and a pattern.

Hope to hear from ya.

Great idea Tug.

One suggestion; for the 13th dozen you might consider offering them as a silent auction item for Trout Fest. Contact Phil Dopson for details (contact info on the "contacts" page of the GRTU Web site).

Thats the perfect idea! Now we just need to round up some participants. I dont know how much one fly would bring at auction. My wife and i will be attending trout fest and i would love to make that happen.

Thanks for the suggestion. Keep em Coming!

I would like to participate. Do we each select a pattern to tie? If so, I would like to tie Bear's Baetis. This a pattern that a San Juan guide, Bear Goode (I think that is the correct last name) originated. I have used it successfully on the Guad as well as the San Juan.

Juan, we would love to have you. We are working out of two different forum post here so might want to jump back n forth between the Fly Swap thread in the lease forum.

Anyway, we have chosen a category, Guadalupe Trout Flies. So the answer is yes. The goal is to have a dozen tiers so theoretically tie 13 of your Bear's Baetis.

We'll keep you posted. we are up to 4 tiers including myself.

OK looks like we are well on our way. The GRTU asked that we would provide them with our donation set by the end of January/first part of February to have it ready for trout fest. That means we need everything else turned in to me by the end January so i can assemble the sets and reditribute them to you all.
So far we have have seven tiers.

So you may pick your flies and tie a bakers dozzen. The theme being "Guad Trout Flies". If we have 12 tiers perfect if not we can donate extra sets to the Trout Fest and raise them even more money. Either way it'll be fun and benefit the sport we love. Any questions please feel free to comment here or email me direct an john.kelly@snapon.com or my home email wich i will be away from for a week at johnkelly10@comcast.net

Thank Guy,

Ok guys, I hope everybody made it home safe from their travels. i went back and forth from Boston and was pretty sketchy each time.

we've got seven tires so far, and each of you should know who you are. I need you to let me know what fly your tying and to goahead a tie them if you hav'nt already. we will continue to tie the original 13 and if we end up with 2 or 3 sets to donate than that could be even better.

So let me know where you guys are and at and keep in touch. also i am still looking for anyone else with intrest in this. You not have to fancy yourself a skilled tier. anyone who has fun or a passion for tying and wants to get to know others this is the place. Please contact me via email personnaly with any questions.

Iwill be tying the copper bead micro z-wing caddis.
