cypert minnow

Postby portalto » Sun Apr 02, 2006 9:22 am

Tied some cypert minnows for white bass and caught a bunch on them during the midsdle of the day at Colorado Bend. The problem I had was keeping them together. After a few fish both ends loosend up and then they scrunched up toward the middle and lost their shape. The fish didn't like them new shape as well as the oringinal.Any suggestions as to how to better maintain the shape of the fly.I did tie down both the back and front separately and glued both ends.As a remedy I tried coating the whole fly with head cement.Neither of these seemed to help.

I use Zap a Gap super glue to hold the eyes in place. It's also possible to cover the eyes with Loon Hard Head or Epoxy to hold them steady. Not sure what to suggest for the back but stronger thread (maybe Kevlar), tighter wraps, and a good penetrating cement like Fly-Tite.

Or just tie more flies and replace them more often.
