Medina below the Lake

Post by BigCliff » Mon Sep 21, 2009 1:42 pm

Howdy folks,

As part of my preparation for BikeMS, I was on a training ride Saturday that took me out past Paradise Canyon. (Via CR 371- rough road, kinda sucks on a bike) That spot on the Medina I crossed over looked quite appealing. It looked like you could wade a ways upstream from the crossing, but I'm not clear enough on the property boundaries there to call it a wise idea.

Lots of the water down stream from that crossing looks awful nice via google sat view, but it seems to get REAL skinny befor e the next crossing, which may not even be public. Anybody ever floated that section? (feel free to PM to protect prized info)

BTW, Paradise Canyon definitely looked like its worth the trip and the entry fee. www.paradisecanyon.com Downstream sections looked worthwhile for wading, but if wading I'd go on a weekday. Lots of deeper water in middle/upper sections best accessed via kayak or tube. Stacy Banta of TX Paddlesports does kayak demos out there once a month, next is 10/25.

Here's something you don't see as often as i would like.....
Bass fishing, catch and release only !
I've never been there but I think I will check it out.
Good find.

all of the lower Medina is snaky, fishy looking water.
Right below the dam at Landmark Inn State Park, you can catch Big white bass all winter long.

There's a coupla pictures on their braggin board that indicate that their C&R policies aren't ironclad, but I too appreciate the effort.

Landmark Inn State Historic Site
Operated by the Texas Historical Commission

This site is no longer a part of the State Park system.

But yeah, that area does look quite appealing. I'll have a 'yak soon and that area is now on the list.
