Nueces River (photo heavy)

Post by k smith » Sun May 03, 2009 10:09 pm

Had the opportunity to fish the headwaters of the Nueces River in the Texas Hill Country this weekend.
Some of the clearest water in the Hill Country.
I don't know what I liked more - the fishing or the scenery.
I'll leave it for you to decide.

The first waist-deep pool with a 7 ft fiberglass rod and a vintage reel "hand-tuned" by Bulldog.

Caught a few of these...

and several of these....

At the weir, the river disappears and goes underground....

... and comes back out here about a hundred yards downstream.

Then turns into this...

... my favorite kind of water.

Then this...

...and finally this.

What a day.

The next morning, went out in a canoe with a friend....

This is God's country.

I love the Nueces as well. Great pictures and I know it was a wonderful day. Do you know how much rain they have received up there? Did you have any problems floating the canoe? Where do you put in? I appreciate it.

Great stuff man, I really need to make that trip soon.
I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer, and I practice moderation in moderation.

Secret's Out.....
Issue plausable denial......
Must have been lost, that's not the Nueces!
I think you drove all the way to the Rio Grande.
Yes, that's it, you drove all the way to the Rio Grande! Oh well, looks like you can catch fish there!
I wonder if anybody will buy that one?
