Re: Hill country fishing

I have another set of wheels with cross tires, too - they just weren't on for the photo. The Carsick Designs roll-top pannier is cavernous and has pockets on both ends. It's also long and requires a full-sized rear rack. The pockets are intended for water and fuel bottles, but happen to fit a rod tu...

Re: Hill country fishing

time to go exploring. With the exception of a few county ordinances (and specific to county roads), you can park your car and get in the water at any bridge that is considered navigable water. That covers the Guadalupe pretty much up to its headwaters (you can't wade at Kerr WMA where the Guadalupe ...

On the warmfly board, guys in NE Texas have really been pounding them this fall.

Welcome.
I think you may get wet tomorrow.
Sorry you'll miss the GRTU general meeting on Saturday.
While I love warmwater fishing in the hill country, our tailwater in the winter and spring is pretty fine.

Re: Hondo Creek

I dialed through all my group photos this morning, but I couldn't find it... Do you remember the rhino butterfly plague? We fished down from Center Point Lion's Park below the waterfall, and every little bass had a distended belly from gorging on the butterflies. Mikey was fishing a red popper that ...

Re: Hondo Creek

Maybe you're listening too much to your own press. You were in pretty good company, and I can't think of a day when the results were ever different enough to be significant - including yesterday. You broke off your first good fish, you weren't geared to fish the deep water. Like me, you weren't inte...

Re: Hondo Creek

technique-wise, the best ways to get the attention of these fish are bottom bouncing where you can get to the flagstone, and skimming the top of the vegetation. I've seen them go absolutely crazy for a mudball on the flagstone. I didn't wade long enough to try it, but a floating line with a cats whi...

Hill Country Trump Card

Yes, that's just the cane - the plastic rods don't need that much care. (and I still get to point to Mick - he has more rods) Not only was Jimbo early, he brought OJ. I guess if there was fishing in my yard, though, Alex would have been the first one there. And just to show you there are three sides...

Re: Okoboji-Not the Hill Country

you used to be able to catch pike in impoundments on Town Creek west of Kerrville - they were stocked in the 40s, and the endemic bass were forage for them. I caught a 25"er once.
That was 20+ years ago. I don't know if they've survived the recent droughts.
