Re: Wading guidelines in higher flows

It's still coming into Canyon strong at the other end also. Where to go fishing if the weather gets nice? Even if it ain't trout? Time to check out the small lakes or creeks if the wind lays low. I like Boerne and Rebecca Creek #11 once debris settles out. Any others? Pon Flows are up to 802.

Re: Upper Guad

No problems parking whatsoever at the bridge area, the signs clearly mark where the limits are. Wade fishing will have to wait until the flow is way slower than now, maybe down to 100 or so. You can access at the apron on the bridge, but there is about 50 yards of rapids immediately downstream which...

Re: Upper Guad

I have doing a bunch of reading about Rebecca Creek, and the Guadalupe River right before it spills into Canyon Lake. After much driving around a couple of weeks ago (and getting a bit lost) I found a boat ramp that was off FM-306 and down Tanglewood Drive in the town of Canyon. I believe the name ...

Re: Trip Report: First time on the Upper Guad

Don't know if you want to be parked too far from a bridge. I have seen cars ticketed with large prominent signs for towing when they're in no man's land. I guess someone considers them abandoned or something. Never seen that situation with cars parked in the designated parking near bridges. This was...

upper Guad fish dying?

Flows have stopped in some areas and sections are drying up trapping fish. Have not verified personally. From another forum:

Lower may be in trouble if Canyon lake gets much lower....

Low weight wins the game for the skinny waters we have around here, especially with the drought lately. Have even used my 6' inflatable pontoon (30# tricked out) on the wading flats at the coast when the wind is down or blocked off by overpasses, etc. Even the upper Guad at Rebecca gives advantage t...

Oops, looks like Venturecraft makes 2 different Tahoe models: http://www.ventureoutdoors.net/pontoon_boats.htm The dura pro is the one I've seen and the fisher is their hard sided. Don't care for the blunt shape of either one which usually means a slow craft. Pon If those are the venturecraft, the v...

If those are the venturecraft, the versions I have seen are not hard sided. They have a thicker, semi rigid pontoon with a sealant inside that is supposed to take care of leaks. Pontoons are much harder to propel for any distance than any single hulls using anything but a motor. My 9# motor battery ...

I use a pontoon and really like the versatility. They are cheap used or from Cabellas bargain barn. Smaller versions are still very comfortable and can fit flat inside a pickup bed with flat cover. Manuverabily and stability is better than any single hull product. Lighter weight than any single hull...

Further downstream, see above link. Pon Went to the upper Guad yesterday and hiked from Rebecca Creek Crossing all the way down to the bend and now waterfall(due to waterflow). Probably about 3 or 4 miles round trip. The water was crystal clear and the weather could'nt have been better, but we just ...

Windy and warm day Sunday 1-18-09 and the whites are still there. Friend of mine in a kayak also caught a 24" striper, right before I was going out, about 3 pm. There were also some mix of Guads and Blacks this time. Only saw one motor boat and one kayak in about 3 hours of fishing. Surprised that d...

Went out for 2 hours yesterday afternoon, Thur 1-15 under less ideal conditions. Wind caused some chop and cold cut my trip short. But whites are still there, although fewer than the 15 of the previous week.

Rebecca launch http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/pwd_br_t3200_0022e/places.phtml Haven't been out since the cool down. Last Thursday 1-9 was a very warm day and the last time I was out. Had the best day ever trolling for whites, often hooking 2 at the same time on two rods. A fishing ...

High temp over 80 today, Saturday 1-3. Water greenish to murky in some spots because of recent drizzle? Worked area from same launch point upstream for about 2 1/2 hours using same technique. Results were 5 very large female whites and 1 smaller male + other bass. Could this be start of some kind of...
