Re: We need Rain !

As much as we would like to think the lake could be managed for the Trout fishery, it is primarily a flood control project designed and managed to control downstream flooding. Secondarily it releases water for historical water right demands downstream and thirdly the water is used to create electric...

We need Rain !

Well it's that time of year again. The lake is close to pool, but we need the lake to reach 909'msl to have the flow agreement to kick in this summer. I've been watching the water temps on the monitors up and down the river and it's already exceeding 70 in the afternoon. So we need the right amount ...

Re: Striped Bass -Guadalupe River Below Canyon Lake Dam

I was fishing last Friday at #5. After releasing a nice Trout I saw a Striper about 20lbs come up out of the deep and look for it.
It was seen half-way between Barking Dog Pool and S Turn Rapids, Go get it !!!

Re: Striped Bass -Guadalupe River Below Canyon Lake Dam

These are the spots I know hold Stripers..... The stretch from the dam down to Horseshoe Falls holds the greatest numbers, from the 306 bridge at Maricopa down about 1/3 the way around the tubers loop, from Little Ponderosa down to the Devil's Playground also holds a large number of Stripers. Also y...

Re: Hey Jimbo

I've been fishing places that I probably shouldn't do alone for years. Places that don't see many anglers or hikers and if something went wrong I would have to get myself back on my own. Then I found a rescue beacon about 3 years ago. All you need is to be able to see the sky. Once activated it uses...

Re: Hey Jimbo

I have a vacation planned starting around the middle of July. A couple of days in Northern New Mexico, then Pagosa Springs Co. for a week, on to Steamboat Springs for a week, followed by some more time in Wyoming, Montana, and maybe Idaho. Snowpacks are up this year in most of the Rockies and it mig...

Re: White Bass

I would say the White Bass runs are over. You can still chase them but you will have to fall back and look for them in the lakes. If you can find a school of White Bass in the lakes right now they will be easy to catch. After the spawn the fish are ravenous and will be trying to fatten up again. For...

Re: White Bass

I've heard at Colorado Bend the males were there a couple of weeks ago so it should be in full swing now.
And Canyon Lake upstream of Rebecca creek has also been happening.

Re: Lease Expansion beyond the Guad

TPWD has been working on a Access Program of their own.
There are other sites on other rivers they have leased.
I don't have a link, but look on their site and you will find them.

Re: Lease Expansion beyond the Guad

Securing access to other rivers is not in the cards for GRTU. I need more access for Trout Fishing and costs are continuing to go up on everything including the purchase of Rainbows and Browns. We are already talking about having to increase the price of the Lease Access program again. There are man...

Re: White Caddis imitation

I googled the Ice Wing Caddis Pupa and that is a terrific looking fly.
I think I will add it to the rotation.

Re: What's In Your Fly Box for Guadalupe River Trout?

We are on the verge of another season. Water tables are up and we should see a bunch of flows this winter 90-150cfs. Now it is supposed to be a drier and warmer winter because of a continuing La Nina along the pacific coast. These conditions should go to ENSO neutral after February returning to norm...

Re: Looking for Shade

I wish we could fish for the Guadalupe's Trout right now. It was so close to happening this summer..... then one heavy rainfall too many. I would say it's still 2 months off at the earliest before our first stockings. So get out there and chase Bass and Perch, it's just starting to get good now. Jimbo

Looking for Shade

So it's been a while since I posted anything about recent fishing trips. Work has really cut into my time since returning from Colorado. I had a few real estate deals going and then there was getting everything ready for the coming Trout season on the Guadalupe. Renewing leases for the Lease Access ...
