Re: Introduction and Heading to Junction for the cold weeken

Welcome.
I think you may get wet tomorrow.
Sorry you'll miss the GRTU general meeting on Saturday.
While I love warmwater fishing in the hill country, our tailwater in the winter and spring is pretty fine.

Re: Hondo Creek

I dialed through all my group photos this morning, but I couldn't find it... Do you remember the rhino butterfly plague? We fished down from Center Point Lion's Park below the waterfall, and every little bass had a distended belly from gorging on the butterflies. Mikey was fishing a red popper that ...

Re: Hondo Creek

Maybe you're listening too much to your own press. You were in pretty good company, and I can't think of a day when the results were ever different enough to be significant - including yesterday. You broke off your first good fish, you weren't geared to fish the deep water. Like me, you weren't inte...

Re: Hondo Creek

technique-wise, the best ways to get the attention of these fish are bottom bouncing where you can get to the flagstone, and skimming the top of the vegetation. I've seen them go absolutely crazy for a mudball on the flagstone. I didn't wade long enough to try it, but a floating line with a cats whi...

Hill Country Trump Card

Yes, that's just the cane - the plastic rods don't need that much care. (and I still get to point to Mick - he has more rods) Not only was Jimbo early, he brought OJ. I guess if there was fishing in my yard, though, Alex would have been the first one there. And just to show you there are three sides...

Re: Okoboji-Not the Hill Country

you used to be able to catch pike in impoundments on Town Creek west of Kerrville - they were stocked in the 40s, and the endemic bass were forage for them. I caught a 25"er once.
That was 20+ years ago. I don't know if they've survived the recent droughts.

Re: Best spots for carp?

I haven't been there in a long time, and certainly not this summer, but the upper end of Lake Georgetown - below Tejas Camp has many big carp. I've caught them spring, summer and fall there in the past.

Re: Kayak or Pontoon

Thanks for the excellent advice, folks. One of my major concerns is portability. I will frequently be loading the kayak to the top of my car and unloading it by myself. And, as those of you who know me know, I'm not exactly a linebacker. Could I do that with the larger yaks, such as the one you rec...

Re: Kayak or Pontoon

Tom, could you talk a little more about the differences between the Mini-X and the LiquidLogic Coupe. I'm considering a yak and these are at the top of my list. Alex, if you're wanting a river boat, I recommend you look at the Jackson Coosa. Test paddled it a few weeks back when my buddy Steve boug...

gin clear water - blend colors are best, green, gray, tan, sandy brown. Gee, hard to beat a cats whisker. http://www.grtu.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1689 Most if not all of the water around Concan is impounded - you're going to need to float, a kayak or belly boat (float tube). great water to s...

Re: Cibolo Creek Help - First Timer

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08183890&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 the creek looks good. The rain gave it a little spike just above median (10 cfs), but as you can see, it's been running only 1 cfs all year. your last photo is a great spot, but a very tricky wade to avoid putting every ...
