Re: lodging

New England is too close to Texas for us to find lodging; we just commute. You might want to try a forum that's a bit farther away, say in Argentina.

Re: New to tying - looking for a unique resource...

A very good facsimile of almost any type of fly can be tied with thread and hackle. I suggest that you look up the standard types of flies and use thread and a medium grade hackle to make a very fishable version of each. Or, in a similar vein, fine wire and some fur. Roy Christie ties nymphs and dry...

Re: Know your hooks?

The part about keeping hooks shart is very important. Dull hooks are probably second only to dull reflexes for missing fish.

Re: Best spots for carp?

There are some nice carp cruising the long deep (well, they were deep before the drought) pools of Brushy Creek in Round Rock.

You sound as if you think that hooking a college student on the backcast is a bad thing.

Re: Kayak or Pontoon

Thanks for the excellent advice, folks. One of my major concerns is portability. I will frequently be loading the kayak to the top of my car and unloading it by myself. And, as those of you who know me know, I'm not exactly a linebacker. Could I do that with the larger yaks, such as the one you reco...

Tom, could you talk a little more about the differences between the Mini-X and the LiquidLogic Coupe. I'm considering a yak and these are at the top of my list.

Re: Can it get any better than This?

Hard to imagine that it could get any better. A good reminder that we have more than excellent trout fishing in the Hill Country; we also have incredible warm water stream fishing.

Re: Cibolo Creek Help - First Timer

Some good points made by all, but, to be fair, Cibolo Creek is a as much a secret around here as the Eiffel Tower is to potential visitors to Paris.

Sounds like a threadlined small soft plastic salamander might pique the fish's interest.

Nice pictures, Edward. And you're right not to post the name of the creek. If I'm right, it's a lovely piece of water that can't stand any more attention.

Re: Joe Robinson's Ultralight Spinning Concept

I had the good fortune of fishing a private stretch of the Upper Guadalue last weekend (as well as spring-fed pond). I used my radical ultralight system about half the time. I don't have any topwater lures for the ultralight, so I used my fly rod for that. But for subsurface work, the ultralight wor...
