Re: Hitting the Hill Country

Dang! I wish I'd known they were doing that seminar--sounds like a good one. Brushy Creek is a nice little creek. I should fish it more often since I'm just up the road from it. Glad you got a chance to try it out.

Re: Info on Michigan fishing

Good one. Haven't been to that site in a while. That guy likes to fish for carp too. Thanks.

Info on Michigan fishing

Might be in N. Michigan (near Mackinaw bridge) in June for a week+. Grand Traverse Bay is only about 1.5 hours away and that's big time for huge carp and smallmouth spawning on the flats in the great lakes. Not to mention the Hex hatch. I was there 4 years ago at the same time. Fished the Pigeon, an...

On central TX carp, I've had almost all my luck on olive damsels with varying amounts of weight. Depends on the depth, clarity, how active the carp are, how much they're on the move. I've found suckers are much easier to catch than carp and feed more like trout or at least in the same type of water....

Can you be more specific? I guess different runs call for different colors. Last year I heard reports that blue was doing well at Bend, while Granger has always meant white/silver. Don't think I ever even tried green though and never fished Tejas, maybe this year. I'll be sure to remember to ...

Thanks for posting Ron. I've been quietly enjoying your diaries of fishing the hill country. You really get the most out of the local fishing opportunities.

Have you tried that fly for whites during the spring run? Maybe in a smaller size or different color?

Yep, I went last week and it it LOW, like you can almost walk across it except for a few deep spots. The whites aren't there yet, as far as I can tell. Didn't catch anything but a few small bass and a couple freshwater drum.

Also, it's $8/car/day.

I like Randall Kaufmann "Tying Nymphs" for info. on what materials are used for which kind of flies. The tying instructions aren't as good as I would like, but it's great for ideas on how to use different materials.

Gus, your pics are great. I guess I need to upgrade cause mine pale in comparison. So how about a yellow fish? Caught a few of these ugly dudes over the weekend: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/preast/fishing/bd1d5804.jpg A small pond bass I caught last winter: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/...
