Re: White Bass

The first will be south to Choke Canyon, and it's probably going hot right now Over the next few weeks, above Canyon (Rebecca's Creek crossing) above Medina (English crossing) The San Gabriel has some great ones that can be worth the drive - Tejas Camp, Circleville The Llano above Lake LBJ Above Buc...

Re: We need Rain !

that's a great link - a lot better than Intellicast daily precip, which I've always used for planning hill country fishing trips (esp white bass)
now Jimbo's going to be sitting with his calculator every day

Re: White Bass

Texas kayak fisherman and corpusfishing are reporting them on both sides of Lake Corpus Christi.
A few staging fish are being caught above Canyon in deeper water.
This rain could kick a good run.

Re: Whitlock/Vibert Box Program

I remember both events a little differently. Mick's great snapshot of me on the first (cold) morning of filming On The Rise - we got a dry snow that morning, and the wind was blowing 20 kts. First day I was fishing my prewar Heddon 2f cane - my wind rod, a 6wt. https://imgur.com/DAvqWG8.jpg and anot...

Re: Whitlock/Vibert Box Program

I honestly haven't been fishing for praise, but have been receiving it here and e-mails for the past few days - it is appreciated. The fun thing about this post (Education Chair), is it overlaps so many functions within GRTU - Fisheries, Education, Conservation - and Perfectly fits our defined purpo...

Re: Whitlock/Vibert Box Program

Jimbo, made me go back and do the math - turns out my guess yesterday was right. I remember helping Karen set up her first tank at Hoffman Lane Elementary school. As she expanded the program to other schools, Round Rock, Roosevelt HS, Larry Hill was one of her full-time helpers. What I remember for ...

Re: Whitlock/Vibert Box Program

Just learned from our New Braunfels TIC teacher, her father, Hylmar Karbach passed last evening. Kate went to the trouble this morning to route me to her team teacher. Hylmar was a force in early GRTU. Fond memories. And Hylmar is certainly vested in the future. ps - just accepted the Fed-Ex deliver...

Re: Whitlock/Vibert Box Program

7 years ago, I helped Jimbo with planting eggs, but 18 schools in the program this year, we'll be blowing and going to get eggs to classrooms. Lloyd will need a crew to help with the gravel and planting egg boxes. Here's a few eggs beginning to hatch after a week in the classroom. https://imgur.com/...

Re: We need Rain !

cut that out - you wouldn't believe the rain I drove through coming back from Cedar Park last weekend.
I finally broke down and went bike riding in the rain the other day.
Hope everybody got out yesterday, it was sure pretty.
Cold but nice weekend coming, and I'm heading to the Bryan tournament.

Re: What's In Your Fly Box for Guadalupe River Trout?

With the proviso that I rarely fish dries on the Guad, I think that you should think more about fly type than specific pattern. Any fly type can be tied to match a specific bug, but different fly types have different characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. Having said that, my own preference is...

Re: What's In Your Fly Box for Guadalupe River Trout?

if you're fishing your wet fly as an attractor, with a smaller dropper, it may be working, anyway. If the attractor turns the fish, and the fish takes the dropper, both flies have done their job. A technique to have in your back pocket is skittering a crazy big dry fly - sofa pillow, hex pattern. Th...

Re: We need Rain !

Not sure if Alex is being facetious, but it truly was a blizzard, downed power lines, and not a good time to be driving because of almost zero visibility. I was out yesterday morning, there were felled trees, and many stranded cars both in my neighborhood and on the highway. The very good thing was ...

Re: We need Rain !

Fredericksburg is getting 6 inches snow - Corpus up to 3 inches. Intellicast shows its even snowing in the Valley and northern Mexico.

This is pretty amazing for deep south Texas

Re: We need Rain !

It's snowing heavy here. I set up the new Trout in the Classroom aquarium at Great Hearts Northern Oaks at 4pm. By the time I got home there was an inch of snow on the hood of my truck, and it only started snowing a few miles from home. https://imgur.com/xfz6Nne.jpg and this is after being parked on...
