Re: We need Rain !

Not sure if Alex is being facetious, but it truly was a blizzard, downed power lines, and not a good time to be driving because of almost zero visibility. I was out yesterday morning, there were felled trees, and many stranded cars both in my neighborhood and on the highway. The very good thing was ...

Re: We need Rain !

Fredericksburg is getting 6 inches snow - Corpus up to 3 inches. Intellicast shows its even snowing in the Valley and northern Mexico.

This is pretty amazing for deep south Texas

Re: We need Rain !

It's snowing heavy here. I set up the new Trout in the Classroom aquarium at Great Hearts Northern Oaks at 4pm. By the time I got home there was an inch of snow on the hood of my truck, and it only started snowing a few miles from home. https://imgur.com/xfz6Nne.jpg and this is after being parked on...

I ran into it before, too, until I figured it out.

My inbox is still full on this forum, among others.

Re: Trouble reading Private Messages

Jimbo, check your settings on private messages, specifically how it responds to a full inbox. What you want to check is letting the board delete your oldest pm's when your inbox is full. Go to Private Messages Rules, Folders and Settings last block is If Folder is Full : simply check delete oldest m...

Re: Striped Bass -Guadalupe River Below Canyon Lake Dam

Those of you guys with some experienced chasing these guys, what size leader/tippet are you guys using. I doubt these guys are leader shy. Since I use a sinking line I keep my leader short (4-6ft). Is a 20lbs butt section and 15lbs tippet enough in the case of hooking a big one? On my Teeny lines, ...

Re: Striped Bass -Guadalupe River Below Canyon Lake Dam

I've thrown every kind of rainbow-looking lure possible - including Catastic - at known striper holes on the Guadalupe, without reply. It's been many years, but one season I was responsible for harvesting 7 stripers from Barking Dog pool (legal limits, of course). The only way I caught them was a ca...

Re: Swimming BWO

I do have a photo of this simple dropper pattern, which works wonders on the Guadalupe. This is Dave Hughes' Serendipity, which doesn't really look like anything except generic food. I have some friends who don't fish any other fly on the Guadalupe. https://imgur.com/goYdhmy.jpg Size 18 scud hook, 8...

Got it! I was thinking the entire braided section was 9'. Thanks for the description on your caddis. Sounds kind of similar to a Fox's poopah, except of course that fly does not have a soft hackle wrap or tungsten cone. Appreciate your help!
fun stuff!

Re: Swimming BWO

Ron, thanks for the reply. Couple more questions if you don't mind please. The furled leader is 9'. How much tippet are your running between the ring and the soft hackle? Just wondering how long the whole thing is from leader to dropper fly. So 9' leader plus ? tippet to soft hackle plus 18" to dro...

Re: Swimming BWO

My favorite subsurface leader with a floating fly line is H&H braided butt fluoro leader - I buy both 4x and 5x, but with 4x usually you need to add 5x fluoro tippet to tie on this hook. These are knotted leaders with a braided butt. http://store.hookhack.com/Braided-Butt-Fluorocarbon-9-4X-Leader/pr...

Swimming BWO

if you like fishing on the swing... Here's my swimming BWO dropper, tied on a size 18 scud hook - killer fished on the swing in a BWO hatch - usually faster water - head of a pool coming off a riffle and/or chute, pocketwater Fish as a dropper below a wet fly or woolly bugger attractor the advantage...
