I am glad you guys had a great time. Now I am dying to hit the hill country. I will this Saturday for sure! Jimbo, I am glad to see you back in the water where you belong. And to the other guys, well I guess they know what they are doing. Great pics dudes!

Gerald, the guide that lives on the river, has always told me that Feb. was the best time to float for the smallmouth. LMB with spawn later in March or even April; depending on river temps. You will have a great time as long as you don't float after a heavy rain. If you get a big downpour and the wa...

The Medina suffers with low water levels. They get spooky and lathargic when the water level is lower than normal. I have had some of my best times on the upper Medina river in Spring to early Summer. Nice pics.

Will you be in a kayak or canoe? This will dictate what amenities and necessities you will be able to carry on your trip. If you do not bring a tent you will want to bring a cot. (Tarp on standby if it rains) The TX ground is just to hard for sleeping bag only. Always bring some sort of cover for th...

I played a round at Fort Sam the other day and brought my 7' glass rod. I saw a cichlid the size of a permit in Salado Creek. I didn't catch Mr. Rio Grande, but caught a few perch at sunset. I broke eighty from the tips, then caught some fish at dusk. (That's golf lingo for you non-golfing fans) If ...

I will give you a vote for fiberglass. (Proxy vote for Ron since he is gone) There are many rods to choose from that range in the 7-8 ft. range that fit the bill perfectly for the hill country. If you are into vintage gear you can't beat a Silaflex, Phillipson, Fenwick, Quite Loop... ahhh; I can't t...

I enjoyed the video very much. I especially enjoyed the picture of the fly rod and arm out of the water while the rest of you is swimming with fish! You may drown but you will still have a fish on the other end! Great stuff.

The Nueces river has to be one of the clearest in TX. It is one of my fav. rivers to run out to when gas was $2 a gallon.
