Re: Devils River rig

At Troutfest, Frank Smethhurst said that a non-slip mono loop knot will allow a fly to sink twice as fast as a tight fitting knot since it allows the fly to turn eye down instead of staying flat on the decent. Might help keep the fly down.

Nice pics, by the way.

Re: Need Recommendation for a Good Fly Tying Book

Alex is probably right. But as far as books with basic tutorials/instructions I use Tying Trout Flies by C. Boyd Pfeiffer I got at Half Priced Books, Essential Trout Flies by Dave Hughes, and Nymphs Tying and Fishing by Larry Tullis has some basic information. I really like Barr Flies by John Barr, ...

Re: New to tying - looking for a unique resource...

Not exactly what you are looking for, but a book by Larry Tullis has a chart of materials for various patterns. You can see the two page chart in sample pages 38 & 39 of the book at link below. http://www.amazon.com/Nymphs-Tying-Fishing-Larry-Tullis/dp/1571880852/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326988...

Re: Dobson Flies

I've seen some seined up around the 2nd crossing at one of Rob Woodruff's classes. He said they crawl on the bottom eating other nymphs and if they get swept away, they roll into a ball. Then when they stop they straighten out and fall head first to the bottom. He suggested a front weighted bugger i...

Re: What to Tie at Troutfest?

A Guadalupe prince would be good to see, also. I'm thinking about hitting the Trout Fest clinics Sat. morning and tying in the afternoon.

Re: What to Tie at Troutfest?

Mick - How about something soft-hackled, RS2's, WD40s, Z-wing or X caddis, Cat's Whiskers or any of John Barr's patterns.

Re: New Braunfels Outer Loop

Did you see the article in New Braunfel's Sun. paper about County Improvements for 2010, with the part below about the RHCP? It says the permit would require voluntary participation of local landowners. Does this have any bearing on the outer loop development? Open space Comal County Commissioners b...

Thanks Danny, for the reply about the thread. Looking closer at what I have, it just says Clark's O.N.T., Boilfast Mercerized. Guess I'll give it a try.

Hope you hooked something other than the trees and rocks, Mick. Thanks for the list of flies. Several interesting midge patterns I hadn't seen before. I inherited some C&C thread, probably not good colors, but they say size 50. That any good? I like Bill and Danny's non-specific endorsements. I've o...

Pon - The water is pretty clear and flowing good but wadeable which is what I was doing. I fished mostly at the end of a gravel bar. If they were there they were in a hiding mood.

I went downstream from the bridge about a mile this morning - didn't see, catch or run into any whites, only blacks and perch.
