Nueces River (photo heavy)

Had the opportunity to fish the headwaters of the Nueces River in the Texas Hill Country this weekend. Some of the clearest water in the Hill Country. I don't know what I liked more - the fishing or the scenery. I'll leave it for you to decide. The first waist-deep pool with a 7 ft fiberglass rod an...

Cat's whisker

Ron,

Just a cat's whisker???

Seriously, it looks like you're fixin' to pull a WHOLE CAT out of that fish's mouth - not just a "whisker".

Man, oh, man.....

Of course, "blue-collar bamboo" is a lot of fun, too.

If you're interested, some of the members on this forum are experts and love to share their knowledge and experience....

One really nice thing about fiberglass rods is that they are pretty cheap - especialy the vintage ones. You can get a whole closet-full (and have one in almost every length and line weight you desire) for about the price of just one new, high-end, graphite rod. Fiberglass is definately the blue-coll...

Yes, I've been told that it is the same blank.
Although I like slower action rods, my graphite-loving friends might like this one alot since they like a faster action.

Hill Country Fly Rod

Jsrieck, Here's one that might fit your needs: Temple Fork Outfitters just released a rod called the SG-II. It's a 6'-9", 5/6 wgt, 2-piece rod. Since it's not on their web site yet, I called the company ther other day. It retails for $179 (about half the price of a Sage Smallmouth rod). The rumor is...

You just can't beat a 6wt, 7ft to 7.5 ft fiberglass rod in these hill-country rivers. :)

That sounds like a good book... but he apparently didn't consult Jimbo so I'm having second thoughts about buying it.
Actually, I've been waiting for Jimbo and Ron to write their own book. :)

Medina River

Got out to the lake this weekend and paddled up to the river in the early morning mist. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o220/kjsmith_bucket/DSC01433.jpg I was hoping to find the white bass beginning to run. Found some beautiful water, but the white bass were not running yet. http://i121.photobuck...
