Help Me Choose a Boat

I went fishing in Concan. While wading the low water crossing works, having to either brush-bust the banks or swim from rock to rock in the deep holes (where the fish are!) gets annoying. I need a boat, y'all help me decide! I fish usually by myself - so I need a single-man craft. Kayak - I've fishe...

Concan for a fishing...I mean wedding

Will be spending the weekend in Concan, but I am there for a wedding. I have some good access right in Concan, but am willing to walk and drive to good access.

Any suggestions of good spots?

Thanks!

I did a Llano Float

Weekend before this past one I floated from White's Crossing down to Martin's Crossing. Parked my car at Homer Martin's ranch and they shuttled me up to White's Crossing. The folks at Homer Martin's ranch were really helpful and they have those great cabins right there on the river! Anyway, I got dr...

hey y'all Thanks for all the great advice! What I have been wrestling with are all the variables. It seems what is sensible are two outfits: a four weight and a 6 weight. However, many have said that a 5 weight with a 6 wt line might be "the ultimate", as it will load the rod on shorter casts. But i...

Streamside (Gravel Bar?) Camping

I am planning on taking a two day trip down a river (just haven't picked the river yet!). I plan on spending the night either on shore (if below the high water mark) or on a mid stream gravel bar. Any thoughts on gear? I am packing light and I expect good weather, should I forgo a tent and just brin...

Jimbo - what do you find yourself using the most? What is your "pet" rod?

Help me choose: four weight or five weight?

I have an eight weight and I would like to get something lighter for hill country rivers. What would you suggest? Can I cast a size 6 hairbug with a 4 wt rod?

Favorite Rod and Why?

I figure this might be interesting:

What is your favorite fly rod (length/line weight)? Where do you like to fish it?

A buddy and I go out about twice a month. I fly fish, and prefer poppers and other topwater flies. I most often fish on the San Marcos down to Fentress, sometimes on the Colorado below Austin, and when I am out that way, on the Llano above and below Junction. Next year I will join the GRTU lease pro...

Drift boat for the Hill Country

Do any of y'all use drift boats? How do they work?

What is the general consensus as the best all-around boat for the hill country rivers, for two guys fishing?

San Marcos to Luling

Anyone ever floated any stretches of this river? Its relatively close to Houston and looks fun. Any good shuttles? Are there islands for overnight?
Thanks!

Rod choices

How do y'all deal with the "Hill Country Catch-22": Most of the fish are fairly small but you need larger flies...so the rod makes the fish feel puny! I generally find myself fishing with size 6 hair bugs and weighted wooley buggers which if I use a 6 wt isn't much fun when a panfish bites. However,...

floating the guad

When the flows are at a more normal level is it possible to float and run the entirety of the trophy trout waters? For that matter, can you float from even further up the river towards the dam? When I say "float and run" - I mean use a jon boat with a small outboard to float down the river and then ...
