A note from Banning: I receive many questions regarding this endeavor and achieving my goal. One frequently asked is, "Why subject yourself to such a grueling adventure? Paddling 260 miles day and night for 100 hours only being resupplied with water! This event requires a steadfast commitment of time for almost a year to prepare, train and develop support. The actual journey takes a paddler's physical and mental being to the extreme over a long period of time. A participant needs inspiration! My inspiration is our service men and women that I hold in the highest regard for their commitment and sacrifice to protecting us. Their will and conviction raises the bar for us all. They are my inspiration to continue through the toughest of times. As you may know, Texas is home to many wounded veterans. Project Healing Waters, the beneficiary of my participation in the Texas Water Safari, is a proven fly fishing based program to assist the wounded in their recovery. I have donated where I could but want to do more. I do not have the finances but I am committing my time and effort. I look to you to help financially support this program and thank you for trying to repay our wounded veterans by helping them heal.
